Mervyn Fernandez – Plumstead

I have lived in SE18 for the past 24 years with my wife and have two teenage sons. I attend CCK church in Lakedale Road. I was educated in Sherington School Charlton, and then Blackheath Bluecoats. I have no formal qualifications but have studied Computing since 1977 to present.

My first fulltime job was with Greenwich Council in 1985 as a Temporary Junior Operator. After a year I transferred to Programming and have been in the trade since. Within Greenwich Council I co-wrote their Housing Maintenance System (9 years), and was the sole developer of their Uninhabitable Property Maintenance System (6 years).

I have been self-employed since 2000. In that time I have worked with over 20 organisations in the Voluntary Sector, including Volunteers Centre Greenwich, GAVS, GCDA, ESV, LACES. I have worked in the Faith Sector with SACRE, and developed the Greenwich Church website for over 120 Christian Churches based in the borough. I have worked in the Business Sector and used to be a regular attender of the local Chamber of Commerce. I also developed a Greenwich Business Directory website for all businesses based within the Greenwich Borough. I developed a website called Virtual Greenwich to raise the profile of tourist attractions that the borough hosts. I also developed a website called Greener Greenwich for the promotion of ecology and was a finalist in the Green Guardian Award 2008. There was also a Greenwich News website for the consolidation of Greenwich Newsfeeds.

I ran a chapel service in Belmarsh Prison for several years and then worked with several ex-offenders. I have also been an Officer in a Boys’ Brigade company based in Blackheath for the past 14 years. As a BB boy I attained their highest award – the Queens Award.
